Product Description

Synopsis
This edition of "Halsbury's Statutes of England and Wales" comprises the statute law of England and Wales from the earliest times down to the present day. Every important Public General Act and Church of England Measure currently in force is included, together with a number of private and local acts. This material is set out under titles in an arrangement similar to that used in "Halsbury's Laws", and for the 4th edition several new titles have been added, among them Health and Safety at Work, Legal Aid, Consumer Credit, and Civil Rights and Liberties. The main purpose of the work is to make the current text of enactments easily available, and the text of every statute has been revised to include all amendments and repeals up to the time of publication of the volume in which it is printed. Statutes enacted since the publication of the relevant volume appear in the Current Statutes Service until such time as they can be incorporated in reissue volumes. Notes to the statutes give concisely the information necessary for understanding and applying them. They are set out immediately after the section or schedule to which they relate, and are printed in type clearly distinguished from the text of the Acts. Each title is prefaced by a short introduction, which gives the reader a brief narrative summary of the contents of the title, the statutes within it, and their relationship to the general law. Each volume contains both an alphabetical and a chronological list of statutes, as well as tables of cases and statutory instruments and an index. In addition, an annually published Tables of Statutes and General Index volume covers every Act included in the work, whether in the bound volumes or the looseleaf service. The work is kept fully up to date by comprehensive servicing arrangements. Volumes in the 4th edition which have become substantially out of date are replaced periodically by reissue volumes. This enables material previously included in the Cumulative Supplement and Current Statutes Service to be incorporated in the main body of the work and prevents the Supplement and Service becoming too unwieldy and difficult to use. In this way, too, the value of the subscriber's investment in the work is maintained.
